mail tab indicates unread/ new messages but all are read

Yahoo! for email. Tab indicates that there are unread/ new messages but all have been read. I use Firefox in private mode. Closed the browser (private mode is supposed to delete all cookies & cache), restarted my laptop, when back to mail, it shows more unread messages. Am I missing something? Being a little OCD, this is upsetting me. Any suggestions? Help?
