everytime I send an email message from my outlook.com it appears twice in my sent folder

They usually do.
Go to account settings and in copies and folders turn off the copy Thunderbird makes as outlook.com makes their own. They and Google do it, no one else.

btw....another problem is that I'm not getting the new email arrival notification sound???
Did you change the sound from the default? Thunderbird is very picky about the sound file and it can be hard to find one that works
