about:home on address bar

Randomly when I press the home button the phrase about:home gets inserted in my address bar above my bookmark toolbar. I have to backspace over it to get rid of it or restart my computer. That only temporarily solves the problem for a day or two, sometimes just for hours. Very annoying so looking for suggestions.

Internally, the name of the built-in home page is indeed **about:home** but usually Firefox displays placeholder text in the background of the bar rather than placing that actual text in the bar.

I wonder why that is happening... I don't have any guesses at this point.

I realize it's a visual hazard, but does it seem to interfere with browsing in any way?

When it appears, does it affect other windows? You can press Ctrl+N to open a new window as a test.
