Firefox freezes every few minutes for 10-15 seconds, even in Safe Mode. Task Manager shows one or two of firefox's sub-tasks as "Not responding" and CPU at 100%.

Pretty much title.

Since about two weeks when I open firefox the browser freezes every few minutes for 10-15 seconds. Launching firefox in Safe Mode or disabling all extensions didn't help. When I open Task Manager during freezes it shows that Firefox is "Not responding" and when I open sub-tasks it's usually one or two causing the problem. When I close those either firefox closes completely or youtube or reddit crashes, leading me to believe it's something with those sites? Refreshing or reinstalling firefox hasn't helped. I'm on Windows 10 (all updates installed) and Firefox 84.0.1 (x64) as of the time writing this.

I hope someone can help and suggest something. I would hate to switch to another browser, but the problem has become unbearable.

MemTest LAST UPDATED : 12/04/2020 Could you please run a tool from http://memtest.org/ in order to check the integrity of your RAM?

You will need a thumb or disk drive to install it on.

Do you let Windows handle the page file or did you set a fixed size ? If you use a fixed size for the page file then try the former and let Windows handle the page file. How to determine the appropriate page file size for 64-bit versions of Windows {web link}

I tried all the tips in the links but none of them helped. As far as I know memtest and pagefile would be relevant if my RAM would be affected or effecting firefox's performance, right? It's constantly at 40% though, even when firefox freezes.

I attached a screenshot of my task manager during a freeze.

My page file is automatically managed and 9728MB for all drives atm.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

I opened Firefox in safe mode and the same thing happened, about 10 seconds after I started it. =/

Sorry, I did just that, just worded it confusingly. I'm getting my Internet over WiFi, so I have no actual connection in safe mode, but firefox still crashes. I attached a screenshot of it.

In most computers, there are several types of Safe Mode. The primary ones used most are;

  • Safe Mode: Only programs that came with the computer are started.
    No other programs will be started unless the user starts them.
  • Safe Mode with Networking: Same as above but the network drivers (internet) will also be running.

This is a way to test if one of the other programs on the computer is causing the issue.

Did you read my answer? I did just that and it still happened.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

Please, Do not post a screenshot ! !

about:crashes shows "No crash reports have been submitted." I'm guessing this is since firefox never really crashes, but only freezes for some time and then resumes normally.

Do you mean I shouldn't post screenshots in general or only of the crash reports (if I had any)?

Thank you for working on my problem.

Some post screenshots of the crash reports. It is hard to copy from them.

I called for more help.

Bumb... ? I switched to Opera, but I'm back to Firefox since I really like it so much.

Anyone else have an idea?
