Every time someone sends an email to verify my email address, it fails to arrive, presumably because it's a new sender. The email are not being sent to my Junk folder or any other folder.

Thunderbird is not blocking anything, but your mail provider may well be placing all this stuff in a junk/spam folder on their server. This is particularly so for the providers that are big enough to treat you like an idiot and pretend that all mail is accessed from a web page.

Have a look in their web mail and see if this stuff is hidden away there. This type of thing is particularly troublesome for POP mail users and some providers filter out junk and never offer it for download. IMAP users can at least subscribe to the folder the provider is using and find the mail.
