Finding out that this issue has been happening for about 3 weeks now. Previously, our shipping/receiving guy would log into FedEx through Firefox and then have to print receipts, shipper info, etc that would normally size to a standard 8.5" x 11" sheet. However, at some point several weeks back, that paper size changed to half that width but kept the length. (Attached is a screenshot). I did try the following:

> Going through the "about:config" and replacing/updating the "prefs.js" file -- no good.
> Updating Firefox. It is running the latest version -- no good.

Initially, I thought it was a glitch with FedEx but then narrowed it down to being specifically a Firefox issue. He is currently running the FedEx through MS-Edge and not having the printing issues that are present with Firefox. Last week, I uninstall Firefox completely and then reinstalled it, but the problem still persists.

His system is a Windows 10 Pro and does have a couple of thermal label printers hooked up to it but they are not set as default. Presently, this appears to be the only issue he is having when printing from FedEx through Firefox. It's like Firefox has latched onto the size of the label printers and will not let go.

Any suggestions? Thanks. BGunn

That is a very odd paper shape!

Could you take a look at this preference:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste paper_id and pause while the list is filtered

Firefox should list this preference for each printer it has used.

I don't know all the possible valid values of this preference, but I do know:

  • 8.5 x 11" => 1
  • A4 => 9

A higher number probably indicates the label size id.

Does it make any difference if you:

(3) Double-click the print.printer_YourPrinter.print_paper_id preference to display an editing field, and change the value to 1 then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox.

jscher2000: You know, I recall seeing that solution and completely forgot about trying it. And, luckily, I ran across another one of your comments where you mention {256} being in the number area. So, just tried this solution and changed the {256} to {1} and, it appears thus far, that that resolved the issue at hand.

Thank you very much. BGunn

Thank you for reporting back. Between then and now, the preference Firefox actually uses changed from

so it's understanding if old steps were not working as written.
