E-Mail Storage

I started using Thunderbird because it was similar to Outlook Express in maintaining e-mails on my PC rather than "the cloud".

The new releases of Thunderbird appear to be storing e-mails on my local server. The cloud is bad enough, however, when you live in a small town, the local server is managed by someone I know. I really don't want them to have access to my e-mails any longer than necessary and I want my e-mails to be stored on my PC under my control.

I have two locations (call them A and B). In the past, A was my primary computer where I saved all my important e-mails. When I was at B, I could read important e-mails but that computer left the e-mails on the server as "unread" (ie POP "Leave messages on the server").

Under the new Thunderbird, when I was at B reading e-mails addressed to A, I tried to tell Thunderbird to put the e-mails I received in my Inbox on A's local server when I deleted them, however, what actually happened was when I deleted them they were deleted from everywhere. So that didn't work.

All I want to do is be able to read e-mails at B without impacting the download to A. When I later download messages at A, it will include e-mails I previously read at B.

I want to know if and how I can replicate the environment I used to have using the latest version of Thunderbird.
