Hi. Just recently I noticed I am unable to open attachments that come in on my Thunderbird email account. When I try to open, I get an email window with this included, as if ready to send? I can save these attachments and then view them, but I do not always want to save, just look at them first? Am I missing something or is this the way Mozilla has now set it up???

Do you mean when you are viewing your message on a webmail site in Firefox, or when you have the message downloaded into Thunderbird?

In Firefox, you generally need to download any kind of attachment, with the possible exception of some PDFs (depending on how your webmail site serves it).

In Thunderbird, the attachment usually would need to open in an application on your system. I don't know why trying to open an attachment would generate a new message.

Perhaps I'm not understanding the situation fully.

Sorry for the confusion, I am not all that computer savvy!! Thanks for your reply. What I meant was that when I receive an email in Thunderbird, I can view the email but am unable to open the attachment unless I save it to my files. Once saved on my computer, I can then open it. It seems like a long way around opening attachments

In the past when I double-clicked on an attachment that I had received in an email, it would open. Now it opens a 'new email window' with the attachment attached, and it appears to be ready for me to add details to send this email. I have tried to open the attachment on this email window but that doesn't work!

From your second last paragraph I think I understand that it is the system on my computer that is at fault, I have Windows 10. Would it be Windows 10 that is causing this problem??

Further to my query....could it be because it is a pdf file? I have just discovered that jpg file attachments open easily
