when playing video in fulscreen the mac dock and top menu disappear

I have two monitors and use a tab on one monitor with fullscreen video playing and another firefox window on another monitor. when I make the video go fullscreen from the video controls from any major video platform it makes the dock and top menu bar disappear every time and I can't figure out why. help please.
