Trouble Restoring Firefox Profile

more options

Hello I'm using the latest version of firefox version 78.0.2 And recently re-installed my Windows 10 0S and I backed up my profile folder for ff in this folder path:

C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Roaming

So it was just a simple case of copying over the folder into the same place and I can begin browsing with all my tabs and book marks.

But firefox is not seeing the profile.

Any ideas please? Thanks Rob

You can't use the name of the saved Profile folder, just doesn't work that way. Each Profile has a unique 8 character suffix (automatically generated for each new Profile, an early security feature called SLT ("salt") that dates to the 1990's in Netscape) which has to match the current Profile folder name or Firefox won't use that Profile.

The "trick" is copy the contents of that saved folder into the new Profile folder so that the "name" is what Firefox expects to find is being used. Plus when doing a 'batch' file copy & paste, you need to Paste the "new" files while Deleting the "existing" (new files in that new Profile folder) for a full replacement.
