I have a Label with two email addresses and get the error message: 'The address "list" in the "To" field was not recognized. Please make sure that all addresses are properly formed' The Label only has two addresses (a test) which are correct. I don't know where to go from here.

Thanks a bunch for your guidance, Uncle Dewey

Chosen solution

A Mailing list contains contacts.

You can export the Mailing List as a .csv file.

But then I'm lost when you say " I then exported/imported the list to a label in gmail"

In gmail, Labels are what we would term as folders and used to store emails. So why are you trying to import into a gmail label/folder?

You would be importing the list of contacts that are in the .csv file into 'Google Contacts'.

If you have a problem : Make sure your contacts are saved as a vCard or CSV file. You have done this.

Tip: If you create a CSV, make sure it has the right headers. This is a link to a google template which you can download and view to see what the column headers need to be. Perhaps you have not opened the .csv file and checked you have the correct column headers so that gmail can see it.

I'm not certain this is a Thunderbird Support question. There is no problem in using the Mailing List in Thunderbird. Do you not think this would be a question you would ask in gmail/google forums ?

using the address book you created the list from, try sending to both email addresses separately. Historically there has usually been an issue with one of the addresses, like a space after the entry in the address book. You do not see it obviously, so you get mysterious errors.

I tried a wide variety of tests and when not using a label/list the message is sent. So then I set up a list in Thunderbird and Thunderbird sent it using the list/label. I then exported/imported the list to a label in gmail and it failed.

I need to set up some labels that my daughter can use when she signs on to my gmail account and I need to be assured that they are okay without having to test them--we're working on End of Life notification.

Thanks a whole bunch for your interest, Uncle Dewey

I don't quite understand what you are saying here...

Do you mean that the mailing list does work in Thunderbird and it doesn't in Google's webmail client? How did you export/import the mailing list?

Hi Onno,

Yes the List works in Thunderbird, but the Label does not work on Gmail on the web. A part of my diagnosing was to export the List from Thunderbird to a *.cvs file, and then Import the *.cvs file when on Gmail on the web to a Label. I also sent messages to the addresses that are in the Label, and they worked. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks a mil, Uncle Dewey

I'll get to the web sites you suggest, but it may be awhile as I'm busy. I view List in Thunderbird to be the same as Label in Gmail. The reason I exported from Thunderbird and then imported to Gmail as I thought I may have not been creating a Label list properly. Anyway after checking your suggested web site I will hopefully solve the issue and yes it is not a Thunderbird problem.

It just dawned on me that I should be on a gmail forum rather a Thunderbird forum. I'll try that and let you know what I find out.

Thanks for you patience, Uncle Dewey

When on the Gmail Forum I got an immediate answer. All I needed to do was tap one of the addresses that show up. I'm a bit embarrassed for the ease of the solution, and for being on the wrong forum. Thanks for your patience, Uncle Dewey
