FF will now not let me log into a site Ive used many times, Ive cleared the cache, remove data, Im not to much techno knowledge but have done that then gone to saved log ins and removed original log in that was saved, gon back to the (site which is my energy supplier) put in my email, then password all is correct but it just will not open anything the dots on top left of page just keep going back and forth, yet if i go onto IE and log in it comes up instantly, maybe I should change!!

Hi, you certainly have been incredibly patient, but the problem is that almost all possibilities have been covered, so you will appreciate that this is rather 'clutching at straws,' but if you feel like giving it a go...

I know that SSE https://sse.co.uk/about-us was taken over by https://www.ovoenergy.com/ so just wondering if that could that have something to do with it. Are you perhaps supposed to login to their site now?

Back in June you said that in Safe Mode you got a message in red. Safe Mode (among a few other things) disables any extensions that you have installed such as ad-blockers etc. If you do have any self installed extensions, disable them all - 3-bar menu > Add-ons > Extensions, also set any theme to Default, then close Firefox and give it a minute before restarting. Now open the 3-bar menu > Library > History, then click the Show All History link at the bottom of the list to open the History-library window. Search for SSE in the Search History field in the top-right corner. Now in the search results, right-click on SSE and select Forget About This Site. (Browsing and download history, cookies, cache, active logins, passwords, saved form data, exceptions for cookies, images and pop-ups for that site will be removed). Give it a few minutes to complete the deletion, then try the site (not from an old bookmark) again.

If it works, re-enable your extensions/theme one by one until you find the culprit. You may need to restart Firefox after enabling some extensions.

Before this started, did you change anything in the Configuration Editor (about:config) because that may be causing this? Configuration Editor for Firefox.

Edit: Further to the above, see if it works from https://sse.co.uk/manage-energy-online

It is possible that your security software is causing problems since a new profile didn't work as well.

What security software do you have?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support to see if that has effect.

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including personal data in profiles created by other Firefox versions

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • it is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then you can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

Reinstall Firefox

Was this ever solved? I am running into the same issue but not on all sites. Is it possible it is an add-on?
