For good measure, confirm that you're using the settings given here https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1010523/ then create a secure mail key for use with Thunderbird instead of your normal ATT password. Delete the currently saved passwords from Thunderbird, then when checking for new messages, enter the secure key when prompted. Make sure to tick the box for Tbird to remember that secure key. This is necessary because Tbird doesn't yet support ATT's OAuth2 authentication method, but works just fine with the secure mail key.
