Popup Logins Lock Firefox

Unfortunately I have to often log onto a website that has a popup password system. The main problem is that as long as the popup is present, Firefox is completely locked up. Basically, until I either cancel the login or I actually login, I can't click any tab, access any extension, or do anything else.

Is there a way to modify this behaviour and keep Firefox usable in these cases?

Is it a "basic authentication" dialog like the attached:

Those are "window modal" meaning you are locked out of all other tabs in that window. If you launch that page in its own window, you should still have access to the tabs in your other windows.

Hopefully in the future the auth dialog will be switched to "tab modal" but I don't know whether there is a time frame for that.
