A scroll bar (horizontal or vertical) is added automatically when they are needed. Are you having an issue?

Using a three-button mouse, clicking the middle button turms the mouse into a scroll controller.

Why would you want a permanent horizontal scroll bar in your browser ?

Some sites seem to remove the scroll bar. How can I bring it back while in the page and not reloading it? Thanks googols in advance! :)

One way to prevent a browser from displaying a horizontal scroll bar is to apply this style rule to the main body of the page or some elements in the page:

overflow-x: hidden;

In other words, if it's too wide, just cut off the part that doesn't fit.

The "normal" behavior is:

overflow-x: auto;

Now, how can we force a page to observe the normal rule? It's possible to inject style rules into a page using an add-on, but since we cannot predict in advance which element(s) in the page we'll need to modify, it becomes slightly tricky to modify just the right one(s). Applying the rule to everything is possible, but side effects may include multiple horizontal scroll bars wasting space.

What is the best way to handle this? Hmm...

Thanks Jsher & Cor-El, I wasn't expecting experts so fast wow!

I'll tell you the application & you won't like me anymore..

The new Twitter does ghastly things making it difficult to re-tweet something, so although I loved Safari, a plug-in called "GoodTwitter" or maybe oldtwitter was only available in Firefox, which made me switch over entirely - I use Opera for my musical tweeting @TeoVincent4 but my other account I use a lot and am appreciated for my media work. Firefox allows you to trim a video as you upload it! Really handy. I'd rather use Safari if they'd put GoodTwitter add-on in it and allow trimming videos when you upload them. (I trimmed / clipped some Thomas Yoo PBS documentaries on Bach/Scarlatti/Handel videos that are in @TeoVincent4 timeline).

I feel twtr doesn't like me, and wishes to make my life difficult, all the non-fake-news and such, so all of a sudden today the scroll bar disappeared! I was hoping it was as simple as a cmd-alt-h for turn on horizontal scroll bar or something.

It may have to do with another site I went to that you won't want to go to czechvideo.org and I'm sure that site is disabling various web & media grabbing tools so maybe that is the culprit. I've installed hide/show scrollbars plug-in or add-on but it says reload the page to see change, and another one, custom-scrollbars but it doesn't have an icon in my icon bar nor control key.

As we speak I reloaded the page I was maybe 20 pages down in and the normal scroll bar isn't there but a custom one from custom-scrollbars is (I set a custom pink color), so maybe I solved it after all! There are gems 30 pages down (last week) and even better gems 40, 50 and more pages down but reloading the page I have to start pressing end-end-end... or keep scrolling down endlessly.

Sorry to go on but I hope this is helpful for the next person where scroll bars disappear and if not, too bad for you, I'm just trying to share so that someone else can save time. Thanks for your help! Really!

In the final analysis the add-on CUSTOM-SCROLLBARS seems to have worked, though maybe the add-on HIDE/SHOW SCROLLBARS helped it stay visible as well.

Trying to upload a screen-shot of the scroll-bar - it is just a small rectangle with no scroll bar border.

We had a question before about the new layout on Twitter where some extensions were mentioned:

I haven't tested them recently.

I think you are referring to the scroll "thumb" on the vertical scroll bar in this image. The style property for vertical scrolling is overflow-y.

Thanks Cor-El & Jscher! The hide/show scrollbars tool icon works for me most of the time, I don't like to reload the page though! Not when that means scrolling down for another 5 minutes again! You have been helpful though so thanks googols!

Hi, is this a new question, or the problem you described in your thread about the missing top and bottom triangles on the vertical scroll bar:
