When print letter, prints as 4" wide. All text is there, just shrunk horizontally.

This has been going on for the last several versions of FF on Win 10 v1903 and v1909. I have multiple printers, one of which is a label printer that I do print 4x1 labels on. IE and Chrome work fine, but FF prints all letter size as 4x11. Looks like all of the information is there, just scrunched from 8.5" to 4" wide. Preview also shows it this way, but printer settings say 8.5x11 letter. Margins are set as .2 all around. Went into prefs.js and deleted the print_printer line, but haven't touched the print.printer_(printername) lines yet (instructions said to delete the print_printer lines, so that is the only one I did).

Well, the Zebra (label printer) and one of the HP LaserJets had a -1, the rest were all 1, so I left the Zebra (and the others) where it was and changed the HP to 1.

Then I remembered seeing a setting paper_width...the Zebra and this same HP were 4.25, all of the other printers were -1. I left the others alone for now and changed the Zebra to 4.00 and the HP to 8.50 as that is what they should be.

For S&G, I then looked at paper_height, and the Zebra and this HP was set to 11, and all the others were -1. I changed the Zebra to 1 and left the HP and others alone.

Ran a test. Both this HP and one of the other printers is fine, but the Zebra is a bigger mess now. I put the Zebra back to where it was, and it is at least usable.

The site I print the labels from was designed around IE and ScriptX. MOST things print fine in FF, except for one label (which is an important one). This discussion allowed me to fix MY issue (the letter sized paper)... I will check with the ERP people about the labels to see if they know what is going on there as I don't think that is a FF issue.

Hmm, why is the label width being applied to a different printer? I haven't heard of that one before.

Let me start with something more general:

Firefox Using One Corner of the Page

One reason for Firefox not to use your entire piece of paper is if it misread the printer data and thinks it holds very small paper. As a possible quick fix, try this:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste paper_data and pause while the list is filtered

(3) This value varies, but based on past threads:

  • 1 means letter size
  • 9 often means A4 size
  • 256 is an unknown small size that sometimes shows up on Brother printers for no apparent reason

To edit a preference, double-click it to open an editing control. After modifying the value, press Enter or click the checkmark button to save.

Any improvement?
