Hotspot Shield add-on no longer working on Firefox v.71.0
The Hotspot Shield add-on (v.3.4.18) no longer works. It was working yesterday (15 Dec 2019). The HSS icon in the toolbar is grey (i.e. VPN not switched on), while normally it is blue when Firefox is running. If I click on this icon, I see the HSS logo but I'm not taken to the control panel / user interface. See screenshot.
I tried:
- restarting Firefox and my PC (Win10, 64 bit),
- "refreshing" Firefox,
- reinstalling the HSS add-on and ensuring that it works in private browsing,
- contacting HSS directly (they only reply to "premium" users),
- going to the Mozilla help pages,
- and installing HSS add-on in Chrome (it works there).
Nothing has worked for Firefox so far. Any suggestions?

hi, firefox 71 contained some changes in the proxy API for webextensions: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1443259
so it's most likely they'd need to adapt the addon. you could look into the version changelog of on addons.mozilla.org and if there weren't any updates in the past couple of weeks you might need to get in contact with their support and ask them to update...
Thanks for the tips.
I tried to find the changelog in Mozilla add-ons , but they don't seem to have any details. I'm not sure what I should be looking for in the bugzilla link though.
Do you know the best way to contact Mozilla/HSS support about this? If I post on the developer forum how quickly will Mozilla address the problem?
according to the version history link on the addon's page, the current version was released over a year ago, so it hasn't incorporated the necessary changes. please use the support links in https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hotspot-shield-free-vpn-proxy-/ to get in contact with the extension's developers.
posting in a developer forum won't help - it's not up to mozilla to adjust/fix third-party code...
