Hi rosesidney, There's already talk among the Contributors here which might eventually lead to a Bug Report being generated. In the mean time, if you should happen to visit a site which is not Secure you will see a red hash through the padlock.

Many thanks for your info. It did seem strange that the green padlock was replaced by a black version. I have clicked the black one which assures me it's secure but verified by Amazon - not sure what that means exactly - surely if secure it should be Firefox saying so? Not being a tech. person just an ordinary user was the reason for my query in the first place! Thanks again greatly appreciate your help. Rose

There are different services used to verify websites for security. Amazon provides one of them.

I don't think that is a "daft" question, in fact I think that change was unnecessary and needlessly confuses users. For some time the 'color' of the 'lock' was stressed a being an important feature, and now "someone" changed that without prior warning.

Overall, I thought that when it was changed to a "green lock" years ago - - that was an unnecessary change and it thru me off for awhile until I got used to it being green.

A lot of images have been changed to gray scale SVG images (look at the bookmarks) and in Firefox 70 this happened to the identity icon as well.
