How do I recover ability to delete Thunderbird messages
Thunderbird will suddenly not let me delete messages. I have tried unsuccessfully to use the Help function's instructions for dealing with this issue.

Did you do this:
Move all wanted good emails out of 'Inbox' into other suitable folders for storage. Right click on 'Inbox' and select 'Compact'
Note: you normally do not need to empty Inbox of all good emails when compacting, but just in case there is some corruption, please do it first.
Empty the Junk/Spam folder Right click on 'Junk' (or 'Spam') and select 'Empty Junk' Right click on 'Junk' and select 'Compact'
Right click on 'Deleted/Trash' folder and select 'Empty Deleted.'
Now delete all the useless unwanted emails that are still showing in Inbox. then compact Inbox again.
Empty the Trash.
I followed the directions. but my problem did not change. I suspect that Microsoft, possibly the synch program, is involved.
Until this problem began, each e-mail was displayed with a delete icon. Now that has been replaced by, for example, Angie Craig <campaign@AngieCraig.com> with date and time of original arrival, but no obvious way of deleting. (I'd send you a picture, but I can't figure out how.)
How to create image:
Press the 'Prt Scr' key to get a screen dump. Open 'Paint' program right click in the blank area and select 'Paste' Crop the area you need Use the Paint line icon to point to issue Save file as jpg In this forum queston, type somthing useful in the 'Post a Reply' text box, then below under 'Add images:' click on 'Browse...' buttpn locate the saved jpg file and click on 'Open' Wait until to see the image displayed. Click on 'Post Reply'
Nothing seemed to happen when I pressed "Print Screen", so I presumably have no file to save as jpg. But I will try to follow your directions.
No luck.
Later: I have found the answer to my question. I just had to ask for the details of the subject. Not sure how they got hidden in the first place. My apologies for bothering you. Unless you have an answer to the "Print Screen" problem. Many thanks for your help.
Hi There is no visible effect when you press the Print Screen button - that is normal. It saves the image to memory but you can't work with it until you open an image editing tool. You will only know if it worked when you complete the steps - open Paint, Right Click, and Paste. If you have Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10, there is a "Snipping Tool" that allows you to select a section of your screen and save it as an image. This might work instead of Print Screen. Best wishes, Agnes
