How does one set the default calendar for new events in Lightning?

I tried the solution recommended here: https://neocodesoftware.blogspot.com/2013/09/how-to-change-default-calendar-for-new.html. Initially, everything seemed to work fine. The calendar I chose as default appeared as the default setting in the Calendar: drop-down of the New Event window.

But I couldn't Save and Close the New Event window, Delete it, or anything. Even clicking on its window's close icon (the red X at top left) wouldn't close the New Event window.

Changing the default back to the original one (by toggling the .calendar-main-default items) fixed the problem, but of course it brings back the unwanted calendar as the default.

I'm running TB 60.9.0 w/ Lightning 6.2.9 on MacOS 10.14.6
