Can not download/use Add-ons
Since a release of Firefox this year that caused a problem with Add-ons working, I have not been able to get Add-ons to work properly with the most recent versions of Firefox. There ar two problem areas. 1. Can't download Plug-ins. 2. When right clicking on plugin on the tool bar, the dropdown settings window does not stay open.
My solution has been to use version 63.0.3 and run the "Add-on fix for Firefox versions 61-65." This works fine, but I'm not able to load newer versions and get them to work.
I have, multiple times:
1. Uninstalled all Firefox versions x64 and x32 bit, uninstalled "Mozilla Maintenance Service" and deleted all "Mozilla Firefox" named folders. 2. Deleted all [username]Appdata/ Local, Local low, and Roaming "Mozilla" folders as well as the "ProgramData/Mozilla folder. 3. Cleaned out the "Windows/Prefetch folder. 4. Added a new user to see if that account was affected as well. It was!
None of this has worked, and I have wondered if some certificate is hanging around that should be removed?

Hi Jim, I reviewed your earlier thread again: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1263852
I assume you mean extensions because the only plugin you can install now is Adobe's Flash plugin.
1. Can't download Plug-ins.
When you are using the current version of Firefox, what is the problem with downloading extensions? Do you get a particular error message?
2. When right clicking on plugin on the tool bar, the dropdown settings window does not stay open.
When you right-click, usually Firefox will display a context menu with choices such as Manage Extension, Remove Extensions, Pin to Overflow Menu, etc. Do you mean a regular click?
Problems with extension drop-down panels closing themselves could be caused by a bug in Firefox, or in the extension, or indicate that Firefox received the Esc key or a click in the body of the page. Unfortunately, it is difficult to know which event caused the "popup" to close. You can set them to be sticky and not close when you click somewhere, but this can be very annoying in its own way... let me know if you want to test that.
If the content of the panel/popup is blank/distorted, it could signal an incompatibility between Firefox and your graphics card/chipset driver software. For that last issue, one method of diagnosis is to temporarily disable Firefox from using hardware acceleration. This article describes where to make that change: Firefox's performance settings. This will take effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. Any difference?
Since hardware acceleration improves the appearance of fonts and animations, you may want to check whether graphics card/chipset driver updates are available for your system. This article suggests safe ways to do that: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.
Just to clarify the "Armagadd-on 2.0" problem: extensions are signed before they are posted on the Add-ons site. The old certificate was used for too long before being updated, so when it expired on May 4th and Firefox ran its daily signature verification routine, older extensions got disabled and could not be reinstalled (until they were updated and signed again). The workaround was to add a new certificate to Firefox itself to allow verification of extensions signed by the old certificate. There was never an old certificate you needed to remove from Firefox.
