Bookmarks toolbar stops working after several hibernate in laptop provided firefox is kept running. Restarting laptop fix the issue.

Posted

1: Start the firefox and work 2: Hibernate the laptop but do not close the firefox 3: After an hour or more, start the laptop and work in firefox. 4: After working for an hour, hibernate the laptop for overnight. 5: Repeat the above mentioned steps for a week.

Result: Bookmarks stop functioning. I can't either add or remove anything from the bookmark. Just restarting firefox does not help. Only way to recover is rebooting the laptop.

Hi rit_bah, Consider yourself lucky. There are only about 22 different issues resulting from the use of Hibernate in Windows 7. By default, the size of the hidden protected OS hibernation file (C:\hiberfil.sys) is 75% of the total amount of installed RAM on your computer. Check this link: Troubleshooting Windows 7 Sleep Problems to see if it can help.

What security software do you have?

It is possible that your security software or other software keeps a lock on places.sqlite and prevent access for Firefox.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
