Hi Mark-E-H, I don't know of a way to save cookies for a site in Firefox. I had to use CCleaner to save cookies for DuckDuckGo. As far as LastPass, I remember seeing a setting to always stay signed in or something to that effect. Otherwise, I think you can uninstall/reinstall LastPass without losing your data.

It is possible in Lastpass to "always remember password" but that means anyone starting the browser has access to the passwords. I will try uninstalling Lastpass, and see what happens. It worked up till last week when I refreshed Firefox as a possible cause of a different problem.

Hi Mark-E-H, you are correct that Firefox's exceptions are site based. Are you saying that you would like something like: keep cookie1 and cookie2 for a site, but clear cookie3 and cookie4? You don't want to keep all the cookies for a site?

I want to keep all cookies for site A, but nothing for site B. Does that mean that if I have included site A in "Manage Permissions" as Allow, that cookies are kept as well? I have also included "https://addons.mozilla.org" as Allow. So it sounds as if that is set up properly, and I will have to look for a different reason why the email address is not retained when selecting the Lastpass add-in icon.

The "Manage Permissions" for cookies & site data is in regard to storage. It doesn't prevent deleting them.

Hi Mark-E-H, I think I understand your question better now.

The question of whether an extension's login dialog retains your username is not based on cookies, unless the dialog is showing content from a website. If the content is from a website, most likely it is the LastPass website and not a Mozilla website. If the content is generated by the extension itself, perhaps there is an extension setting for what information to retain from one use to the next. Does the toolbar button provide access to options?

That used to be different. Is there any way for me to clear all cookies automatically when I close Firefox, except for names sites where I wish to keep them?

Not that I could find in Firefox. Like I said before, I had to use CCleaner. When you save cookies in there even Firefox or another utility can't delete them.

@JSCHER2000. These is no option setting for this. But when opening the toolbar button, I get the attached.

That's it. I had it set to Remember Email and let Firefox enter my password.

The function of the checkbox isn't clear from its name. If you used Firefox 64 or earlier, you may remember that there was a "Keep until" setting. The checkbox replaces that selector:

If the box is unchecked that is the same as "Keep until: they expire" and if the box is checked that is the same as "Keep until: Firefox is closed".

The way that is implemented is when a site requests to set a cookie, unless it is on the exceptions list, the expiration date of the cookie is discarded and set to Session Only. Those cookies then expire naturally when you end your Firefox session.

In the new version 68, when you open Manage Permissions it says: "You can specify which websites are Always or Never allowed to use cookies and site data." I tried "every way from Sunday" to Save cookies and site data here but, nothing worked.

I think the order of these buttons should be rearranged to avoid confusion. Put the Manage Permissions at the top and Clear Data next to Clear Data When Firefox Is Closed.
