After Firefox updated a few days ago, all of my bookmarks disappeared. I have tried to get them back, but nothing has worked.

I have tried a number of recommended methods, and nothing has worked. History does not acknowledge anything before the Firefox update.

I have tried what was recommended above; none of it has allowed me to retrieve my bookmarks. History does not acknowledge anything before this evening.

If you lost personal data then it is possible that a new default-release profile folder has been created. See "Determine if Firefox has created a new profile":

You can open the about:profiles page via the location bar to check whether multiple profiles are present and what profile Firefox currently is using.

Firefox 67 and later can use a dedicated profile for each of the Firefox update channels and will lock the profile, so it can only be used by Firefox in a specific installation folder. For Release versions this profile would be a xxxxxxxx.default-release profile, profiles used in older Firefox versions usually used a xxxxxxxx.default profile (a refresh adds a time stamp).

I have 2 Profiles; one was the one Firefox already had, the other was created in the course of trying to get my Bookmarks back. Neither has my Bookmarks.

I still have not been able to recover my missing bookmarks. History does not show anything before the Firefox update, and the oldest save of bookmarks is from the day of the Firefox update. I have tried all the posted articles that seem to pertain to this; I still do not have my bookmarks. Please advise.

I have the same problem, I didn't have a profile before, updated to new version as per warning notification. Created a profile as requested, no bookmarks showing....are they in an old directory somewhere? Thanks

SH What about the rest of your profile? Settings, bookmarks, history, passwords . . . .

It seems fairly obvious that if you've already tried the previously recommended steps to recover your bookmarks, bookmark toolbar, settings, etc. from another profile and none of it has worked, you're out of luck. It seems that several people just needed to hear this as much as I did. Now that I know Firefox creates a new profile whenever it updates I should never have this problem again.

Incorrect - not "whenever" Firefox updates. Starting with Firefox 67, under certain conditions an update might bring about the creation of a new Profile but typically that only happens once. And that is related to changes in Firefox which allow the user to have multiple different versions of Firefox, with each version having their own unique Profile which is selected automatically by the Profile Manager. And that feature is in conjunction with about:profiles as mentioned by cor-el on 8/4 in this thread.

As to why some users didn't have that with Fx 67, but rather getting a new Profile in Fx 68, 69, 70, or even until Fx 71 is unknown. Personally I haven't experienced a new Profile being created with any recent version, but I don't wait for Firefox to automatically install the update. I use Help > About Firefox to trigger a check for updates every 6th Tuesday when I know that a Firefox updated version is set for Release, per the schedule. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Release_Management/Calendar Note that updates in the future are slated to be every 4 weeks from the 'normal' 6 week intervals that we have seen for the past 4 or 5 years.
