Password not working even though the password is right
When I try to login to thunderbird with a ProtonMail email address it says the username or password are incorrect when I have checked multiple times that the username and password are right.

Are you another OSX user learning just how rubbish anti virus products are by any chance? They are the primary cause of "password errors" on windows.
When you use IMAP it is simple, because the messages are still on the server of the mail-provider.
Delete the account in Thunderbird and start over again.
Otherwise (using POP) delete the password in Thunderbird and you can insert the password again.
