where do i start? maybe work backwards--unresponsive, then crashing in safe mode as well.

did the safe mode thing because i was getting "not responding"s, sometimes even at startup, other times just randomly--and often crashes--sometimes after unresponsive, sometimes just out of the blue.

firefox has also been very slow for me pretty much since ver. 60+.

can't figure this out.

WTF could be the problem?

would crash report info help? there were many unubmitteds--submitted them all except for the two would not submit--say "failed" and reloading page gives same result. scanning through them randomly, most say EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT, but i also saw EXCEPTION_STACK_OVERFLOW, EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ and EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION. could be more, but i don't have the time to look through all 53 submitted reports from 4 june until now--before that, there were only 11 between 28 may this year and 7 december of 2017.

thanks for any info/advice!

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

many of these had been unsubmitted, therefore the times are irrelevant, i suppose... and, thank you.

Update Malwarebytes. If the problem continues, disable it.

more options

what if i disable malwarebytes and it does not resolve the issue?

Then we can look elsewhere.

more options

FredMcD, i guess we need to look elsewhere, then. thank you for your timely attention here.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

These crash reporte are OOM (out-of-memory) reports where not enough contiguous free memory is available.

Total Virtual Memory : 140,737,488,224,256 bytes (140.74 TB)
Available Virtual Memory : 138,530,583,179,264 bytes (138.53 TB)
Available Page File : 5,885,952 bytes (5.89 MB)
Available Physical Memory : 285,298,688 bytes (285.3 MB)
System Memory Use Percentage : 95
OOM Allocation Size : 1,048,576 bytes (1.05 MB)

What is the size of the Windows page file? The telemetry data shows only 6 GB memory and that isn't much, so make sure the page file is at least at the recommended size.

You can check the about:support page (Graphics) to see whether WebRender is active. Try to set this pref to true on the about:config page to disable WebRender.

  • gfx.webrender.force-disabled = true

Close and restart Firefox after modifying this pref for the change to take effect

See also the Firefox Task Manager (about:performance) and about:memory pages.

try not not to set a custom page file size, but let your OS manage that...
