When I search for Forecastfox, I find the following extension. Does it work the way you want or is there something not quite right about it:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/forecastfox-fix-version/

There are some other extensions that don't require such broad permissions but might have what you want:

What I'm looking for, is to be able to see at a glance the weather for the week right up in the menu bar, like I used to be able to do(pre-australis) and I can still do with my current browser, palemoon.

In a nutshell, I trying to get firefox to appear as close to what I have now with the aim of returning to firefox.

I realize I may be asking a lot, but I'd hoped that by now fixes and/or work arounds may be available...

I am aware of that, but I'm trying to preserve the look. That is what is important to me. I have managed to put the tabs back on the bottom, but I want to have my weather bar back...

In Firefox 57+, extensions only get to create one button in the toolbar area, unlike the old days when they had free rein to do whatever they wanted, anywhere. That is very unlikely to change.

Some extensions now create floating bars or in-page bars to approximate the old look. Did you notice the bar at the bottom of this image for the new Forecastfox (ignore the large overlay on the right side):

If the extension has a suitable tooltip then you might be able to display this via CSS (content).

While I have no problem pasting info into userchrome, alas I am not a coder, not even a little.

That said, I was hoping that this exact kind of fix/workaround existed.

Surely there must have been a smarter person than me figuring this out by now...??

It's not so much that I don't like the browser I'm using now, it's just that as I get older I feel less inclined to put up with it's silly little issues.

I'd just like to get this one as close as possible...

Thanks.

You can pass the suggestion to the developer of the extension to see if it is possible to add this feature.
