Google calendar scrollbar does not appear

more options

Google Calendar is a very popular and widely-used product, so I would imagine this bug impacts a large number of Firefox users.

I've noticed recently that when editing calendar entries, the scrollbar that is used to scroll through the calendar entry textbox no longer appears with desktop versions of Firefox. The issue exists in both the Windows and Linux versions of Firefox -- I've confirmed it on at least four computers, both Windows and Linux, on which Firefox is installed and as far as I know up-to-date. (I have not tried mobile versions of Firefox because Google Calendar functions are handled in Android with a native Android app.) This is particularly problematic if calendar entry descriptions have more than a few lines, which is common.

I tried to attach screenshots that I had saved so it would be immediately visually obvious what was occurring, but when I select "Add images" on this form and select a PNG file containing a screenshot, the cursor just spins and spins and the image never uploads even though I'm on a very high-speed connection and the screenshot is only 60K in size. So the Mozilla team should also consider looking into that issue as well.

I would like to file a bug report, but Mozilla seems to be directing me to this support feature rather than a bug tracker, so I'm not sure if I can file a bug report or, if I can, how to do so.

Thanks in advance.

Hi cstarkweather, sorry about the image upload; that is a intermittent problem with this forum software (or the image gallery software, I'm not sure). You can reply to yourself to attach the screenshot if you like:

By the way, I see what you mean. When I use the scrolling gesture on the touchpad, no scrollbars appear on that region of the page. Same on beta (Developer Edition, 68.0b12).

Since Google's pages are notoriously complicated, I'm not sure we can sort it out on the forum. I posted a WebCompat issue, which you can follow and add to:

https://webcompat.com/issues/33490

If you want to file a formal bug, the tracking system is over here, but I'm inclined to see what happens with the WebCompat report first:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

I suppose it could be fun (if not productive) to post on Google's forums, too:

Thanks for the reply, jscher2000. Per your suggestion, I've added the screenshots with this message. It seems the upload dialog worked this time.

In this thread, when you scroll down, you'll see many people reporting the same problem, using different browsers (including Firefox) :

Thanks for the lead. In a linked thread, a user identified a possible explanation:

Google updated that page recently with a non-standard CSS parameter: "overflow-y: overlay;".

https://support.google.com/calendar/thread/7336794?msgid=7753385 -- and he provided a style rule workaround that could be implemented using either of the following extensions in https://support.google.com/calendar/thread/7336794?msgid=7703053 :

I've attached screenshots of what that looks like.

Note that Google uses gibberishy names for different parts of its pages, so this workaround is not guaranteed to work forever, or even after Tuesday...

Note: There is a bug on file in Bugzilla for Google Calendar filed June 3, 2019: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1556512
