I cannot receive new emails. It keeps retrieving the same email and not others.
I received an email this morning at 6:18 and was able to read it. Every time I tried to get new messages after that, it would only download that same message. Others have tried sending messages to me today. I am able to send messages.
I have tried on two different computers to download new email. I have rebooted the systems and run virus scans. There are no viruses.
I contacted my web hosting service. They tell me that it is a Thunderbird problem. Everything worked just fine until this morning.
Any help would be appreciated. This is making me crazy. I m.ay not be able to read your reply in Thunderbird
Chosen solution
- Start computer in 'Safe mode with Networking'
- Start Thunderbird.
Are you able to download emails? If yes, then your Anti-virus Product is causing the issue. Stop AV from scanning emails or any thunderbird file or folder.
If no - no emails downloading....
- Start computer as normal
- Start Thunderbird
If it is a POP mail account there may be a logon jam on the server.
- Logon to webmail account via a browser.
- Empty the 'spam' folder.
In Thunderbird
- click on 'Get Messages'
If still no messages downloading. In webmail account
- delete the last message that downloaded successfully.
- read the oldest but not downloaded email, make note of info etc and delete email.
In Thunderbird
- click on 'Get Messages'

Thank you for your response. Yesterday afternoon I called my web host tech support team. They told me that everything looked fine at their end.
I ran antivirus and malware scans on both my server and laptop computers. They were both clean. Still, the only email that would come through was the one from 6:18 Monday morning. Your use of the word "logjam" was an apt description of what seemed to be occurring.
The tech I spoke with recommended viewing the email with Webmail. I tried doing that with the cPanel password I had saved in Dashlane. It didn't work.
I tried again just going straight to Webmail. It wanted to send an authentication code to my Thunderbird email address which didn't work.
I had to open a new Webmail account with my Gmail address to get the authentication code sent to my phone. Once I received that, I was able to log in and see the emails in Webmail.
I deleted the one email that was causing the logjam and some before and after it. I rebooted my server and opened Thunderbird. This time I was able to receive some but not all of the emails I had viewed in Webmail. Today everything is back to normal.
This has been way too much technical angst for my 75 year old brain. Is there a way to back up Thunderbird? I have Carbonite but found out that it doesn't back up my email.
I appreciate your help. Thank you.

re:Is there a way to back up Thunderbird?
Assuming you are using a pop mail account, all emails are already downloaded.
Exit Thunderbird.
Make hidden files and folders visible:
Assuming you are using a Windows OS (Operating System). Access:
- C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird
Copy the 'Thunderbird' folder as it contains everything. Paste it into eg: an external hardrive or usb drive that is big enough.
