The boxes have been increased in size but all of my links are gone with what is there is large and in the middle of the screen. If I go to see the apps available to me they are expanded and take up more screen, which is harder to read, and although big they are harder to read.

Additionally, the detail takes up over 50% of the screen. The left had edge above the Window symbol runs from top left of the screen to the window button.

If all this is supposed to be an upgrade, it is not. Finally there is only 12 boxes on the screen, how do I get the boxes that I want inserted into this screen?

Thanks Harry

Hi Harry, are you saying that not just Firefox changed, your whole Windows desktop changed, too? Everything got very large and blocky/pixelated?

One possible reason is "compatibility" settings. Could you check this:

Find the icon you use to start Firefox, and either:

  • Right-click a desktop shortcut, then click Properties
  • Right-click a Firefox icon pinned to the Taskbar then right-click Mozilla Firefox, then click Properties

You should clear all the boxes on the Compatibility tab for best results (giant screenshot below).

Any difference the next time you start Firefox?

Hi Harry, if your startup screen inside Firefox looks different, could you check whether your Firefox is using a new profile? Firefox 67 makes some changes to how profiles (individual settings folders) work and it doesn't always go perfectly.

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list one or more profiles. The newest one typically is named default-release and the older one(s) might be named default or a variation on the word default.

Each profile has one or more buttons at the bottom: please do not use Rename or Remove to avoid further problems.

Can you find a "Set as default profile" button for your previous profile? After setting that, you can exit Firefox and start it up again, but the history/settings in the current profile will not carry over after the switch.

Was that the issue?

Hi jscher2000

Actually the only thing that is wrong occurs when I bring up the Windows square. I get Instead of getting my the boxes in the left half of the window and the left hand edge I get a whole series of small icons starting at the top edge edge with Pin tiles, All Aps, My Name, Documents, Pictures, Settings, Power, underneath is the Windows Icon.

If I press on the Apps button I get two screens of available apps. I could get along with this if I had any control of the Apps screen. As it is know I am able to down size the Boxes but I can not do anything to the apps screen. The Apps screen is just too big. The old APP screen was much better and more usable. This is not an upgrade.

Hi Harry, I see, it's the Windows "Start" menu that changed. I'm not sure why it changed. What if you call up setting this way, either:

  • right-click the Windows Logo button and then click Settings
  • click the windows Logo button and then click the "gear" icon in the left column

In the settings screen, type start into Microsoft's search box there, then click Start settings.

Here there are a bunch of options and maybe you can restore the menu to your preferred layout there?

If that doesn't work, I encourage you to try Microsoft's support forum. They should be the experts on this kind of thing.
