I can not select "Ask to save logins and passwords for websites" in PREFERENCES
I want to have Firefox save my password for HOTMAIL but it won't do it.

Unfortunately you don't say what happens when you try to check that box, but would you please make sure that you're not in permanent Private Browsing mode :
Preferences => Privacy & Security => under 'History' => Firefox will : choose : 'Use custom settings for history' Uncheck : 'Always use private browsing mode'
If the above isn't what causes the problem : do you by any chance use an external password manager ? If so : would you disable it and see if that will make a difference ?
