How many bookmarks can firefox keep?

Posted

When I now try to bookmark, it auto goes to Other Bookmarks, saves w/o asking, or telling. Then I have to edit bookmarks to put it where it belongs, then it saves, still w/o saying anything. (Bookmark saved) Am I over the limit how many can it maintain? I do Bookmark a lot. Thanks. Win 7 Are there any simplistic bookmark maintenance Apps for laptops?

I saw a posting earlier today where the user had over 112,000 bookmarks per the Integrity report for the Places database that he posted.

Try using this WebExtension to help you save each bookmark exactly where you want it saved the first time: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/default-bookmark-folder/

112,000? That's some serious Bookmarking. Gee, I'm way short of that. (Grin)

+ History can store a maximum of 125,629 unique pages + Table moz_places has 69,069 records + Table moz_historyvisits has 104,597 records + Table moz_bookmarks has 15,260 records

Note that the "Bookmark This Page" dialog has a checkbox near the bottom to disable the dialog. With a hidden dialog you would have to click the star another time to open the dialog and move the bookmark to another folder.

I have a similar problem. I've been using Firefox since 2009 and have a lot of bookmarks. If I set the cursor at the bottom of the list of bookmarks so it scrolls down by itself, it takes about 30 seconds to reach the end...but numerous bookmarks are missing. If I add new bookmarks and they appear in the recent bookmark list, it only show a few of the most recent bookmarks and I can only see the others if I delete the newest, visible ones, to make room for the slightly older ones. Why doesn't Firefox just let us put in a few thousand bookmarks? Also, if a copy a new bookmark and place it near the beginning of the list, it makes another copy of it in the new bookmark list. If I delete it, it also deletes the one I put near the beginning of the list.

Two things:

(1) After installing the extension, you need to go to its settings and change the folder from Other Bookmarks to the one you want to use. It has separate settings for the built-in Firefox feature and for its own button.

(2) To always show the editor when you add a new bookmark, while on a bookmarked page, click the blue star and check the box for "Show editor when saving":

Hi stephenf99, how many "few" thousand do you want to add? Due to some excess duplication, I'm lugging around about 6,300 bookmarks. Some day someone needs to clean that up...

Would you mind starting a new question about the issues in your reply? When you open the following and later page, scroll past the suggested articles to continue with the form: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/bookmarks

Also, instead of using the Recent Bookmarks list I suggest adding a full bookmark menu to your toolbar. Two options for how to do it:

(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar

(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?

  • Click the "Library" button: or use the menu button and click Library
  • Click "Bookmarks"
  • Click "Bookmarking Tools"
  • Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
