How do I resize/view received images? They appear way too large and I have to scroll to see them

I just switched to Thunderbird from Postbox and/or Outlook (depending on which computer I am using). I would really like to make Thunderbird my go to across all computers, but there is one major defect I haven't been able to resolve.

When I receive an email containing photos -- often several per day -- the images display at full scale within the message. There is no clear way to resize the photos to view them in their entirety. The right-click menu offers 'Select All | Convert to >> | Copy Image | Save Image As...'

None of these options apply to what I need to do, which is simply view the entire photo within the visible message area.

It seems so simple that I must be missing something. This is the default action in Postbox and Outlook.

How can I make Thunderbird behave in this manner? I thought for a second that the 'Auto Image Resize' add-on would do the trick, but it appears as though that is only for image composition.
