Had to reset Google p/w but now Tbird doesn't recognise it.

Email server is imap.googlemail.com. I can log in to my gmail a/c through Firefox but not through Tbird. Tried the Tbird p/w reset option but never got the email with the link. Any ideas? ... and thanks in advance...

Given Thunderbird has no password reset I really have no idea what your requested... a reset of the forum password perhaps?

There is no password reset because Thunderbird holds the passwords you give it, It does not create mail passwords.

Given you have reset your password with google I bet you also fell foul of their badgering to disable less secure apps. Turn it back on.

Thanks Matt... there is a Mozilla screen I found that says "Forgotten your password? Enter your email address below, and we'll send you instructions for setting a new one." At the third time of trying, I got the link and reset the p/w to the new Gmail p/w. This led to a screen saying "Congratulations..." but I stil can't log in to Gmail through Tbird. I guess the underlying question is: why doesn't Tbird recognise the new p/w?

Yep I guess your password for this forum is now your new gmail password. I will say this one more time. There is no reset your password Mozilla web page for resetting your mail passwords in Thunderbird. So lets drop it. It is a waste of your time and mine to dwell on the non existent. You found something, but it most certainly was not the right thing.

Because you have probably turned off the ability of mail clients to get your mail from Gmail by changing setting on their web site while you were changing your password there. Like turning off less secure apps.

Hi Matt... well, I used to be pretty good with computers, but I'm 72 now and, sadly, things have moved on too quickly for me to keep up. So... Tbird had saved the correct passwords for both the imap and smtp servers, but didn't recognise them. Re-booting the laptop solved the problem. Thanks again for your help.
