The latest update for thunderbird failed to intall several times. The suggestion was to re-install the software. I did so, however the installation stops at the message saying "Installing Please wait while Mozilla Thunderbird is being installed."

The text following this says: Size: 95539607 kb Files: 27283 Folders: 708 progress bar is stalled at a point about 2/5ths from complete. At one point the number of files and folders was changing, but it has stalled as above for about 5 hours now.

I have force stopped and then tried again, re-booted the computer, shut down the computer and started it up, did an uninstall of thunderbird, removed the profile folders and any other trace I could find of thunderbird, and then tried installing again, only to stop at the same point. Cant think what else to do.

really strange thing is that thunderbird icon appears on my desktop and when i try it out I can in fact run thunderbird, and get mail, even though the installation is supposedly still in progress. This is disconcerting. I find myself unable to trust the software in this in-between state.

Any thoughts? Abandon the app, or is it fixable?

I have installed Thunderbird several times since Christmas without any issues at all on windows 10. So I am guessing you have security software that is blocking the install, or you do not have administrator access to your computer to install software. Seriously I would go with the first option. Probably an internet security suite.

thanks!

I shut off the security and it didnt have an effect. but it got me thinking. shut off other software and thunderbird finally installed after I turned off dropbox.

could not say what the interference is specifically, but this isnt the first time dropbox has been the culprit. Something to add to the checklist for myself at least.
