When I type "t", the address bar automatically show" place:type=6&sort=14&maxResults=10/". Since this is not really an address, I can't delete this from history. When I hit return, it only brings out a google page. It never happened before and it is very annoying. I have deleted all the history but it still shows up each time.

This is a so called smart bookmark (in this case: Recent Tags) that would normally show the results of a database query. This is similar to lists like "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" that were previously included in Firefox. I'm not sure why this query would show up as a suggestion when you type a 't'. This query would only work as a bookmark and in that case would have a star at the left end in the drop-down list. If the star is missing then this would be an history item and that might explain its appearance. You can try to use the search bar in the history sidebar or Library to search for this URL. That should allow you to remove this item.

Thanks for your response although it did not apply to my situation. There is no star at the left end in the drop-down list and it is not in my history when I tried to search it in the history sidebar.

Hello annoyingFF,

Would you please take a look at this thread - same thing happened when that user typed the letter 't' ......

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/9s5f9y/firefox_suggest_sites_that_ive_never_visited_in/

Would you please do as suggested by 'jscher2000' and see how that works for you  ?

I actually found this before I posted the question here. I had restored my bookmark and also clicked "verified integrity". Nothing has changed. I also updated my system from 63 to 64, but it did not help anyway.

Not giving up just yet .....

Would you give this a try :

3-bar menu => click on 'Help' (at the bottom, next to the ' ?' ) and then click on 'Troubleshooting Information'. Under 'Application Basics' => Profile Folder => click on 'Open Folder'. Leaving that page open, go back to Firefox, and close Firefox
(3-bar menu => 'Exit' at the bottom). Now look for a file called places.sqlite and rename it to something like places.sqlite.old.

Should there also be a file called places.sqlite-shm and a file called places.sqlite-wal when Firefox is closed : then please remove those two.

Also see : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data

Edit : typo ....

This is suggested in the drop-down as a history "autocomplete" suggestion, or it is suggested in the address bar itself as an "autofill" suggestion? Usually with history autocomplete suggestions, you can prevent Firefox from suggesting them again by arrowing down and using Delete on the keyboard. Autofill suggestions are harder to get rid of but normally would be domain names and not internal "smart bookmark" queries.

I have changed the name to places.sqlite.old and all history were cleaned; however when I type "t", the annoying phase still show up. When I close Firefox, both places.sqlite.shm and places.sqlite.wal are gone.

Here is the screenshot when I typed "t".

I just typed in the address bar the letter 't' and lo and behold : it was autocompleted to 'tunein.com' - not bookmarked, but it rang a bell : I went to check all my bookmarks, and I found :

https://tunein.com/radio/Gold-London-1548-s45622/

which is bookmarked .....

Have you checked all your bookmarks  ? Maybe look for something called 'Recent Tags'  ?

I do not have any bookmark that starts with"t". I just double checked.

Neither does mine - it starts with "G" (as in "Gold London"), but the location is https://tunein.com/radio/Gold-London-1548-s45622/

Like I said before : when I type in the address bar the letter "t" it autocompletes to " tunein.com " - I have "Gold London" bookmarked .....

Your screenshot doesn't show the rest of the search suggestions (I'm assuming there are some) - are those bookmarked  ? You'll probably notice that they don't all start with the letter "t", but that all "t's" in the search suggestions are bolded.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

None of them have phrase like" place:type=6"; that is why I thought it does not relate to bookmark.

I tried safe mode twice. The first time seems to work until I deleted the history. The second time, it did not work and had the same result. If my suggestion is based on open tub only, the phrase won't show up but a lot of other suggestions disappear too. When I select either bookmark or history, the phrase will show up. I am just really confused now.
