On initial install Firefox Quantum shows gray on screen instead of white

A couple weeks back after installing Quantum my screen backgrounds that should be white were dark gray. I found some adjustment to fix it, but, yes, I forgot what that was.

My Firefox tonight got all flaky, dropping links (screen went to black), so I uninstalled and then re-installed. Then, while the links were working, the screen was back to grays instead of white on the background. I pulled my settings from a backup ( the User\AppData\local and Roaming folders, and now the screen is white again. But what setting is that that is being manipulated?

Isn't there a way to brighten the screen without reinstalling or bringing over archived files? It seems like a simple adjustment that is being set (or unset) to cause the issue and then fix it.
