Slow Running Firefox

Posted

When running Firefox the time between between clicking on a link in one webpage and the new site displaying on the new tab has become several/many minutes. This wasn't always the case - it's happened for a month or so. The equivalent responses when operating in Chrome are much sharper, in fact as good as could be expected. Has anyone got an explanation/remedy? Paul Chant

You can try to refresh Firefox (Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings), however, you are using an old version of Firefox due to the fact that you are running Windows Vista. There will be no other updates for this operating system, Microsoft themselves abandoned it almost two years ago. You should either update to Windows 10, buy a new computer, or switch to linux,

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
in case errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry
