I do not want this thing anywhere near my web browser. In fact our corporate policy forbids anything that communicates in the background without ME personally entering the url's. Pocket in fact is classified as a virus.

hi, pocket is a mozilla web service and feature of the browser that can be used to store articles for reading later or on other devices. no serious entity will classify that as a virus. as long as you're not actively using the service, no data is submitted.

in case you're just referring to the reading recommendation section on the new tab page, here's how to turn that off: Customize your Firefox New Tab page

Anything that takes things from my computer and stores them somewhere else, IS A VIRUS! It is hacking software built in. If you think I believe for one minute that "turning it off" will stop this functionality from being used nefariously you are sadly mistaken. Why the hell can't this be an add on - that can be removed? Did the CIA force you to do this? The Chinese? I'm on the windows version of Ice Cat. Screw Firefox.

Let's chill out with the insults. Pocket doesn't store anything off your computer if you aren't using it, if you don't sign in it does absolutely nothing. So I'm not sure what the problem is.

You can disable Pocket :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar : extensions.pocket.enabled

and set its value to false

Then close and restart Firefox.
