LastPass d/l add-on slowed computer and typing wayyyyy down and removing it did not fix that. Now what?

more options

Almost 3 weeks ago I wanted a password manager, so I researched and d/l LastPass. Installed in Win 8.1, then discovered it should have been added on to FF as an add-on Extension, so I did that too. Immediately I began having slowness problems. Just loading any web page took upwards of 2 minutes. What I typed wouldn't show up for about 45 seconds and was insane when I tried to correct typos. I uninstalled it from Win. It still worked after that! I removed it from FF. I searched out pieces that remained on my hard drive and deleted them. I defragged and ran diagnostic scans, etc. Both problems improved slightly. Now it's just in Facebook that the typing buffer is excruciatingly slow, as are loading any pages on the Interwebs.

Today I disabled all (5?) of my add-on Extensions. The problems were *almost* solved by that. But not completely. What else can I do, please? And do I just have to live without those add-ons I liked? (AdBlocker, SFx - Social Fixer for FB). Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 27.0 r0 by removing it with this tool :

If do not use it, do not install it. It will be phased right out in 2019

If do need it : Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.134 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

So all of this is in your Profile. Are you in need of History or Sessions or ... or just need your Bookmarks and life is pretty good ?

Create a new profile as a TEST to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem. Never work with original files.

What's What in the Profile :

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
  • logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) or key3.db (57 and older) (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • if you only have key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db
  • cert9.db (58+) or cert8.db (57 and older) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • if you only have cert8.db then make sure to remove an existing cert9.db
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
  • sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)

Thank you very much. I went through all of these steps, one by one. Creating a new FF Profile was long and difficult because I needed to manually copy files over so the problems didn’t migrate to the new version. In the process of this I messed my computer up badly. It’s now much worse than when I started. For only the 2nd time ever I am having to use a Restore Point and go back to an earlier configuration.

I think this advice is good advice, but my computer had a lot more issues than this could help.

I did figure out what was causing the slowness and a couple other small issues, so now I can fix those once Restore is finished. The slowness was caused by at least one corrupt add-on. Also Firefox was crashing again and again as the result of a deeply buried dll related to a display driver. I still have to fix that. (I’ve had a display driver problem for 2 months. 90% solved now. Just need to replace the crashing dll.)

Thank you!
