How to increase my IMAP quotum?

Below in my Thunderbird screen I have seen several times a yellow-colored rectangle indicating the percentage of my IMAP quotum that is being used. The number has been steadily increasing. Most recently it was 84%. My question is: Can I simply increase my IMAP-quotum anjd, if so, how?

Your provider has quotas not Thunderbird. Ask them about your options.

Thanks for your answer. I guessed that Thunderbird might support sending requests to the mailserver for quotum change, but apparently my guess was too optimistic.

Have you cleaned up your folders? Empty trash. Delete old messages. Remove attachments that you no longer need or save them outside your email folders. Do you compact your folders on a regular basis? Maybe you do not need more quota.
