A web page is slowing down your browser

more options

Long time user of Firefox (and Thunderbird) - in last few days started getting the yellow bar warning about a web page slowing down your browser with the options to wait or... some pages I can click on wait and it will continue soon after, other times Firefox freezes and can only be stopped through task manager.

This happens on sites such as Google Maps, my financial institutions websites, etc. I've tried safe mode, refresh, disable all extensions, disable hardware acceleration, etc - nothing works..

I'm on an Spectre X360 laptop with 16 GB Ram, 512GB SSD drive, UHD display. Running Avast anti-virus. On 5Ghz wireless to 150Mpbs internet connection.

I installed Chrome to compare, not a single problem with speed and no yellow bar messages.

In past, I've had no problems with speed - even with multiple tabs open.

What happened? This just started out of the blue, at first I thought it was our ISP until I tried Chrome.

As I tried to enter my plugins below, I opened the add-ons manager and when I went back to the tab to enter them got the same yellow bar A web page... error! ON THIS PAGE!

Can send the reports as did, there is some info there but nothing that shows what is crashing as a lockup is not a crash. Crash Reason EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT this is usually caused by some external software on your system that is hooking into the firefox process that isn't prepared for win64bit builds of the browser. you could either try to eliminate that external interference or switch to a 32bit version of firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

In this case since it is Google Street View you are using high volume of GPU ram for the Video Card.

Please Search for Device Manager and check (as no info came regarding your video card drivers) if running the right Drivers for your Video Card as Windows 10 can and will change any and all Hardware Drivers to it's own. https://www.howtogeek.com/302595/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-automatically-updating-hardware-drivers/ So if it says your video card is running Microsoft drivers you want to find the make and model of the Video Card (possibly sound also) and search for your Drivers and reinstall them.

Please Copy/Paste about:preferences#privacy into the Address Bar then Enter. Go down to the Heading : Permissions and at the bottom of that heading please make sure there is a Check Mark in the box for Prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser.

Then please go up to General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 or try higher till find the sweet spot. Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

HI please do this always :

The crash reports do not seem to help much as you ended the Task so it is not a crash when locked up.

After doing the above please follow what it asks on the Yellow Bar which I would guess is a refresh.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

When I did the refresh a few days ago, I did what you stated in the first two links. Plus using that info to export to Chrome. When the yellow bar comes up with the message about a web page slowing down your browser it offers a wait or stop option. Clicking on either of them doesn't do anything, and Firefox is frozen - nothing on the screen responds... hence using task manager to end process. Advice on how to send in a crash report when Firefox is frozen would be appreciated.

So I went back to Google Maps and did a screen grab. When the yellow bar comes up nothing responds anywhere within the Firefox window, when I got into task manager it says Firefox (5) and using about 1.5 GB of RAM.

I cannot get out of Firefox without ending task

Video and Audio drivers are Intel, not MS, already checked the privacy setting yesterday, and all performance items are unticked. Plus the sweet spot seems to be the default (4).

Having said this your comment about external software got me thinking as to what I changed recently - which is the addition of Sidebar+. Disable this and performance is closer to normal, with no yellow bar warnings. Strange though is that my 7 year old Toshiba with 4GB RAM has no problems with the Sidebar+ nor does Chrome.

Too bad, Sidebar+ is great - just confused why this is only a problem with Firefox.

I know your solution is months old but I had the same yellow banner issue today. I couldn't connect to comcast email, but everything else seemed to be okay. I am using FF 62.0.2 and I had added the sidebar before the problem started. After I read your FIND OF THE MONTH I took sidebar off and presto, everything was back to (okay, almost) normal. A belated thank you. So for others out there, if this problem started after you added something to your browser, remove it and see if that helps 1st.

Using 61.0.2 - STILL getting yellow bars about once a week. NO recent add-ons. My ONLY add-ons: NoScript and HTTPS-Everywhere.

How about Mozilla actually DIAGNOSING and FIXING whatever's causing this behavior? Let's see what code TRIGGERS the yellow bar. Of course I will be happy to assist.

Hi cbraunc, could you start a new question? Also, if your last crash report was from April 2017, then it would be helpful to post a fuller description of the problem.

This is the link to start a new question about Firefox:
