Judging my a number of posts this is a very old problem. But still it persists.

I'm using 58.0.2(64-bit) in Windows 7 Pofessional with all known updates.

After a while, Rick-click stops working and I can't even click on the menus button with 3 horizontal parallel lines.

Yes I know I can go [Shift]F2 and type 'Restart' but this is fixing the symptom rather than cause. The symptoms are sure to return after a while.

Yes I have carried out a clean install, yes one with a new profile.

Is there a way forward with this problem? Is it recognised as a problem as it seems to be recurring amongst other users too?

Hi, did you reinstall this way : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 58.0.2 with a Full Version Installer

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

1) Under %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ I have directories: miywmyel.default (An old directory) rgc3mxu1.default-1515973198064 (from latest install)

2) After uninstalling Firefox there is no Firefox folder in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86)

3) A search found Firefox folders: C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\rgc3mxu1.default-1515973198064 (why?) and C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\miywmyel.default (just empty sub-directories as above) and C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\rgc3mxu1.default-1515973198064 (very large)

4) There was 1GB data found by Disk Cleanup

It is not obvious why I have two folder with the same name but different contents. I deleted these Mozilla folders after taking backups of non-empty folder. I have setup Windows to see hiden files etc.

Installed Firefox Imported bookmarks Copied contents of “rgc3mxu1.default-1515973198064” into new “quima7hl.default”

And I’ve lost all of my previous setup, apart from bookmarks :-(

I will let you know how I get on.

Hi, ya maybe went a little to far. Did you install with the Full Version Installer as that is a key part. Did you get your Right Click back ?

Perhaps I wasn't very clear. The loss of the Right-click etc happens after running firefox for a while. If I close and re-open it returns, albeit temporarily.

Similarly, if I don't want to lose my current set of tabs I can go [Shift]F2 and type 'Restart' .

However I felt this was fixing the symptom rather than cause. The symptoms would return after a while.

I'll let you know how I get on.

I can confirm that the issue returned after 10 days or so.

So even with a new profile, I can no longer use right click or click on the options menu without a 'Restart'.

Ok, ya you are carrying old Profiles as per your post : 3) A search found Firefox folders: C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\rgc3mxu1.default-1515973198064 (why?) and C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\miywmyel.default (just empty sub-directories as above) and C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\rgc3mxu1.default-1515973198064 (very large)

The large one was your current Profile I would guess.

Are you running any registry cleaners or ccleaner that would/could strip info out ? If so stop or fix them to ignore Firefox then reinstall.

Are you now at version 59.0.1 ?

SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST"""""""""""""""""""report back please after trying.

1) No, I am using a new profile quima7hl.default. 2) I do not use CCleaner or anything similar. 3) I am at version 59.0.2(64-bit) 4) Hardware acceleration was disabled from an issue with Google Maps.

I checked about:config>Search for 'javascript.options' and I can't see any refernce to *.jit?

This issue manifests itself after using Firefox for quite a time. Therefore the idea of using Firefox in safe mode for 10 days or more is not really a practical route.

Many thanks.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

I don't think it is a practical proposal to run Windows in Safe Mode for a week or two until this issue manifests itself.

The only virus checker I use is to run MalwareBytes once in a while.
