I am currently using an adblock addon but it slows down firefox.

Only on Firefox? Are you using any other web browsers?

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

I use Firefox, Chrome, Edge & IE

Malware can be also Browser based so affecting on doesn't mean it affects the others and vise versa could affect all installed browsers as well. So you need to start your computer "Safe Mode with Networking" and then find was installed from the malware or the user unbeknownst installed malware and uninstall it. That is the only way to rid of malware infections from normal usage. Otherwise you need to find a computer shop to fix it.

I'm sorry but I don't know what you mean by 'find was installed from the malware or the user unbeknownst installed malware'

It’s very sad, but many software downloaders/ installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.

You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.

You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does.

From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

Note that these programs can also change browser/computer settings.

I asked if you had the same problem with other browsers.

Did you run the malware scanners I linked to?

Yes, nothing came up.

Hi,

Would you please try this :

Go to the 3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Addons => Extensions and look for any unfamiliar or suspicious looking extensions.

When you find any : remove them.

Do the same in your system's Control Panel.

However : most malware will be 'hiding' somewhere and that's why running the malware scans, as suggested by FredMcD, is a must. But as these malware scans didn't find anything in your case, doing a Refresh should do the trick., but first see this article :

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
