Video often doesn't play in Facebook and other sites

Posted

I just updated my computer to Windows 10 and a completely fresh install with new boot drive.

I am having a problem with video, mostly facebook video, but on other sites also. I haven't noticed any problem with Youtube. I am assuming that the video problem may be with flash videos but don't really know what format embedded videos are.

I only experience the problem in Firefox. I don't have Chrome on this computer, but Edge shows facebook video just fine.

What happens is the video plays for a while, then it turns into vertical rainbow lines.

Computer: Windows Pro 10 version 1709 (64bit) Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 driver version 23.21.13.8859 (dated 12-5-2017) Firefox Quantum 57.02 (64-bit)

I have been through the "Fix video and audio playback problems on Firefox for Windows" page and downloaded the Media Feature pack, but when I try to install, I get a warning that says: "Windows Update Standalone Installer, The Update is not applicable to your computer." I did download the one for version 1709, so I assume my version of Windows already has the Media stuff.

I downloaded and installed the newest Flash Player from Adobe today. No change.

Here is what it looks like:

Please Refresh Firefox but do this 1st :

then Refresh :

Note: Any customization will revert back to default, you will also need to reinstall Extensions.

  • TEST.......

If no issues then Extensions which need to be added back in 1 at a time and tested .....

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem. See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thanks,

I worked through the steps and it seems to be working. I will have to use it for a while to make sure because it doesn't seem to do it all the time.

Have a Merry Christmas

Bummer... Not solved. Seemed to be ok but like I said before, doesn't do it on all videos. Today, it seems like most of the facebook videos are "rainbow-ed".

Seems like it is some video codec.

Plug your Video Card Name ( NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 ) into here :

New Drivers released on the 20th of Dec.

  • Repair System Registry and Files

To run the DISM command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu, then select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter. Reboot After.

Note : SFC /SCANNOW fixes files locally using files found on your system. Note : DISM goes up to Microsoft for new ones.
