Lately, when I click on Macys website, I do not get pictures to look at the merchandise. What I do get is a list of all their departments on the left side of my screen. I do not know what happened. Even if I click on a certain item on their "list" it doesn't do any good.....nothing pops up on the screen.

jscher200, beat me to it but I suspect one or both of those ad blocker program is interfering with the protocol so it doesn't load right. I would ask that you disable both of those and just load Macy's page no other page and see what happens just for this test but do nothing else and see how it loads or doesn't load. Also having to many blockers will conflict with the other as well. So more doesn't equal better here.

TO WESTEND..... Disable both of what?

TO HAPPY112 I have Firefox as my browser. That's the only one I use.

What about those PLUG-INS. I have no idea what they are for. Do I need them?

Also, when I go to WINDOWS HELP AND SUPPORT, I get line on my upper screen that always says: "YOU HAVE LOST YOUR CONNECTION TO THE WINDOWS HELP AND SUPPORT WEBSITE. TRY TO CONNECT AGAIN."

It's been saying that for a long, long, time, but I just ignore it.....have no idea what it means.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

I already started the computer in safe mode with networking 2 days ago. I hope I never have to do that again! Everything was changed on my screen after that......the color themes, tool bar was gone, etc., etc., etc.

Do I have to do anything with those extensions?

If you want to know what those three plugins are about, you can click on 'More' (highlighted)

You could post a question on Microsoft support forum :

As you don't use Edge or IE, have you tried Google Chrome yet, to see if the same problem occurs with a different browser  ?

Have you actually tried Macy's site again, with both AdBlock Plus and uBlock Origin disabled  ?

more options

I thought I was supposed to just uninstall the AdBlock Plus and leave the Ublock Origin installed?

Yes, and it was great that you uninstalled AdBlock Plus and kept uBlock Origin. I am definately not asking you to uninstall uBlock Origin, but to disable it (for now) and then try Macy's site again, just to see if that will make a difference. If it makes no difference : just re-enable uBlock Origin again.

You're getting so many suggestions and do's and dont's thrown at you - must be pretty confusing for you. But you're doing great.

I do not think I uninstalled AdBlock Plus. I just pushed a button that said "disable." Is there a difference?

Yes, it is a bit confusing because I have no idea what I am doing......I am just following instructions without understanding any of it.

When you disable it, you can always re-enable it. When you uninstall (remove) it : it's gone.

I know exactly what you mean - but don't feel bad; most people haven't a clue about what they're supposed to do, and/or why.

I just hope that you'll get to watch that Macy's site again, cause this is taking an awfull long time, eh  ?

Somebody's bound to come up with the perfect solution (fingers crossed).

Am I supposed to "uninstall" or just keep it the way it is......deleted?

Also, what about those plug-ins that say "ask to activate."

While I was waiting for the reply box to show up on my screen, I got that strange list in blue ink showing up on my computer screen again. It looks just like Macys screenshot only it has to do with Mozilla. Then it disappeared. Do you know what that is about?

-- when Firefox loads a website, it first retrieves the basic code of the page, then all the related files. Usually Firefox presents you with the final appearance of the page all at once, but occasionally if there is a glitch, you may see an unstylized version of the page before the styles are applied.

This should be very rare with a fast connection, but it happens often enough that there's a Wikipedia article about this problem: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_of_unstyled_content

Anyway, since the Macy's page doesn't ever correct itself, that's a different problem.

By the way, Friends & Family sale ends today, so if you need to shop right now, please use another browser!

As for uBlock Origin : don't delete / uninstall it - just disable it (for now) to see if it will make a difference. I doubt if it will, but it won't hurt to try.

Also, what about those plug-ins that say "ask to activate"

I have mine set like this (see screenshot) :

TO JSCHER: So now you know what is wrong with my screen, but no one knows how to correct it. Am I right?

Would it help if I called Comcast?

Or, if I had the Geek Squad out here, do you think they would know how to fix it?

more options

Hi ChaCha, as far as I can tell, we do NOT know why other websites work normally, but the Macy's website does not apply the style rules and therefore the page is a mess.

I don't know if Comcast or Geek Squad would be able to help. If you call either of them, please make a backup first in case they make lots of settings changes without keeping a detailed record of what they do.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

If I email Comcast later, do you know what the technical term is for the problem I am having ,i.e., what should I tell them?

more options

Before you spend a lot of money (Geek Squad = $ 199,99), wouldn't you contact Macy's first  ?

But maybe you've already done that ......

I would still assume that you either have security software or an extension that blocks some CSS files.

Did you ever check this in the Network Monitor or Web Console?

more options

I bookmarked those 2 websites, however, I do not know what to do. They both look very complicated.

You asked if I ever check CSS files. I do not know how.
