I have recently been trying to watch Youtube clips on a Dell Inspiron 1545 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system. The laptop was crashing - the system seemed to freeze up (couldn't change which tab I was on or go to another item like a word document) yet the sound for the video seemed to continue. Because I tend to have lots of tabs open within the browser I thought it may be I overloaded it somehow. So I would end up trying to quit the browser (trying "task manager" and ending the application - if possible - but often wouldn't make it this far as the system was still frozen and "thinking" (you know, you can hear it thinking/churring away). The volume control also seems to often freeze in place if I tried to adjust the volume. I end up rebooting and hoping for a better outcome. I've recently realised it is only when I am trying to run Youtube that it does this. If I'm just browsing other websites then there is no problem. I've tried reading through web pages with articles and I am not computer savy enough to get into most of it - need it as if you're asking a 7 year old to do it(!) but from what I've seen it sounds like there could be a compatibility issue somewhere - I'm just not sure where. I am running Mozzilla Firefox 56.0.1 64-bit version. Everything seems up to date. One item I came across said something about drivers being out of date, I managed to find the connection things (PCIe?/wifi? - http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-1627862/computer-freezes-youtube-videos.html) things in the Device Manager and tried updating them there per instructions on another page (https://www.wikihow.com/Find-and-Update-Drivers). Windows reports they are up to date. I have got an AdBlockPlus running ("ADP" in a little stop-sign like icon). And I have got Adobe Flash Player 27 Active X and NPAPI installed - they seem to be up-to-date versions also. I have also seen in "Add-Ons" in Firefox that Adblock Plus is a "Legacy" extension and there are 3 "Plugins": "Shockwave Flash 27.0 r0", "Wildvine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc" and "OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc". From the firefox/mozilla info I've read it sounds like there could be something with their newer browsers not supporting add-ons like flash anymore, but an exception for flash was made and it isn't clear if that is to come in 2018 or relates to the 64 bit version somehow or if it's already happened. From one mozilla item I found linked to a test at http://camendesign.com/code/video_for_everybody/test.html and that seemed to play fine - it says "H.264 HTML5" in the bottom right hand corner of the playing area. However this clip is only 1 min long and youtube seems to manage to play for about 5min before it decides it must freeze itself and the system up! So I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone help? I am going to try preventing adblockplus from running on youtube, but I don't see that as being a useful thing as the whole point is to block ads on youtube isn't it? So maybe there are alternatives if this is the problem? Any help greatly appreciated! Thank you!
