open new tab each time so several pages open at one time

I had to refresh Firefox. Afterwards, once at my home page, if (for example) I clicked on a bookmark, the tab would go to the bookmark page instead of opening a new tab/page (that would result in both tabs/pages open). I want to be able to have multiple pages open at one time (as it was before the refresh).

I searched for a fix and followed the instructions for the "about:config" solution but it was unsuccessful.
