The minimize and adjust window size controls have disappeared leaving only the close X in top right of window

I followed a link to what I thought was a news site. After reading for a few moments, a WARNING message (including a voice message) told me to call a certain number because my machine had just downloaded a malicious something. I opened Task Manager and closed the window immediately. I restarted Firefox...the same message immediately came up.

I closed the window and ran a virus and security scan...no issues reported.

I restarted Firefox...the window would not go to full size (it was stuck on about a 2" square size).

I restarted in safe mode. Everything looked fine.

I restarted in full mode and the window was now full size, two of the three control buttons in the top right of the window are gone. I can click on the X and close the window, but I cannot otherwise control size of placement of the window.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here:

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html Uninstall Flash Player | Windows

Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Can you create a fully functional new window by pasting the following into the Windows Run dialog or the Windows search box (on the Taskbar or start menu), and pressing Enter to execute it:

firefox.exe "about:blank"

Does that window have its normal complement of buttons and bars?

If so, you could close the other window. Or if you are worried about losing multiple tabs, right-click each tab you want to save from the other window and choose Move to New Window (this creates an independent window with that tab).
