Why does a bookmark open as a webpage in the bookmark side window?

Posted

After saving the myAT&T login page as a bookmark it opens in the bookmark side window instead of opening a new tab in the browser. All other bookmarks perform properly. I've tried deleting the bookmark and resaving from a fresh page link with no success in changing the problem. Thank you.

Yes, common problem when you let websites save a bookmark for you. It's because Firefox has severely restricted what sites can do with the toolbar area of the browser, so sites can only add it as a sidebar page. You can fix that by hand in this case, and just save the bookmark yourself in the future to avoid the extra step. Here's how:

Fix Bookmark

Right-click the bookmark wherever it is saved (e.g., Bookmarks Menu, Bookmarks Toolbar, Other Bookmarks list) and choose Properties. In the little dialog that pops up, there should be a checkbox at the lower left to indicate it should open in the sidebar. Uncheck that and OK the change.

Save Bookmark

You can bookmark the current page by pressing Ctrl+d, or right-clicking a blank area of the page and using Bookmark This Page. There's also a star icon on the address bar. Each of these methods should display a panel to move the bookmark to your preferred location. If the panel disappears too quickly, click the blue star icon to call it up again. More info: Use bookmark folders to organize your bookmarks.

Hope this helps.
